Howard Gene Boyce, 81, of 132 West Market Street, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in his home.
Mr. Boyce was born in Perquimans County on October 30, 1942, and was the son of the late James Edward and Grace Caroline Rogerson Boyce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Julian Boyce.
A 1961 graduate of Perquimans County High School, he later attended Evangel College in Springfield, MO. He pursued a career in banking and retired as manager of Hertford Savings Bank after 34 years of employment, and owned and operated Grandma’s Treasures for many years. An ordained minister with the International Pentecostal Church of Christ, he pastored Hertford Pentecostal Church for 40 years and had served as the Mid-Eastern District Overseer of the IPCC for 29 years. Many remember him as a “community pastor” and someone who could be called on in a time of need, as he faithfully ministered to others while at work at the bank or during the times families asked him to serve as pastor at the funeral of a loved one.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Gloria White Boyce; his four-legged child, Ramsey Alexander; two nieces; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Rick Lowery. The private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and other times at the home.
