Georgina Robbins Robison

Georgina Ferguson Robbins Robison, “Geordie” to family and friends, of 124 Bayview Trail, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, August 27, 2019, in her home.

Born on February 7, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Georgena Drake and William H. Robbins, Jr. of Bay Shore, New York. Mrs. Robison’s parents divorced when she was eight years old and her mother later married Dr. Robert A. Stalter, an officer in the United States Navy. The children of the two families, Bill, Geordie, and Jerusha Robbins, and Marcile and Sandra Stalter, with their parents, merged into a closely knit family. Shortly after marriage, Dr. Stalter was assigned to the Naval Station in Trinidad, BWI for two years. Upon completion of that duty, the family moved to Groton, Connecticut where Geordie attended Fitch High School and met her future husband, Jim Robison. After graduation, Geordie attended two years at the University of Connecticut and went on to graduate from Katherine Gibbs Business School in Boston. She then moved to San Francisco to be near Jim who was studying Architecture at Stanford University. In September 1962, following Jim’s graduation from Stanford, they were married in Mystic, Connecticut. Just a year later, Jim was commissioned an officer in the US Navy, their first child, Sam was born, and they moved to Hawaii where Jim was assigned duty on a Destroyer. Over the next 20 years, they moved frequently from one assignment to another: Newport, RI, Monterey, CA, Bayonne, NJ, Guam, San Diego, CA, Carmel, CA, Naples, Italy, and McLean, VA. In 1968, they were blessed with the birth of a daughter, also named Georgina Ferguson Robison.

Retiring from Navy life in 1982, Jim and Geordie moved to Edenton and started a residential design/build company. She was the office manager for J.C. Robison, Inc. and, in addition, was a stay-at-home mom, constantly volunteering with various organizations. While a Navy wife, she was tireless in her work with Navy relief and other Navy support functions. After moving to Edenton, she became deeply involved with the Cupola House Society, serving as chairwoman and in other various positions, served as Vice Chair for the Edenton Historic Commission, and was a Stephen Minister at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Following their move to Edenton many years ago, most of the rest of the family gradually moved here too. Her sister, Sandy, moved from Texas and became the Inn Keeper at the Lords Proprietors Inn. Her son, Sam, left the Navy, moved here to work in the family business and married a local girl, Ramona Halsey. Her daughter, Geordie, returned here from Atlanta. Parents Bob and Georgie Stalter were the next to move here, and most recently, sister Jerusha, and husband Peter Gurvin moved to town.

Surviving are her husband, Jim; son Sam, wife Ramona, and their family of three children and four grandchildren; daughter Geordie; and sisters Jerusha, Sandra, and Marcie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 7th, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and will be conducted by the Rev. J. Malone Gilliam. The burial will follow in the church’s Memorial Garden. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a reception in the Parish Hall of the church.
