George McArthur "Artie" Pittman, Jr.

  George McArthur "Artie" Pittman, Jr., 60, of Gates County, NC, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his home. Artie was born in Newport News, VA, but raised like many of his cousins in two dear places: Occoneechee Neck in North Carolina at the Kenly Hunt Club, and at his father's birthplace of Kenly, NC. Artie was the proud son of Diane Davis Hill of Newport News and the late George McArthur Pittman, Sr. An Apprentice School graduate, he spent over 40 years of his life working at Newport News Shipbuilding in various departments. Aside from work, Artie enjoyed spending time with his family including his “girls” Kira and Whiskey, working on his classic cars, hunting, and playing golf.

  He is survived by his mother, Diane Hill; his wife, Sandy Pittman; two daughters, Amanda Wiggins and Parker Pittman; a son, George McArthur “AJ” Pittman, III; and his brother, Chris Pittman.

  A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, August 29th, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville. At all other times the family is receiving visitors at the home. Please keep the family in your prayers during this difficult time and as they mourn the loss of their beloved husband, father, brother, and son.
