Gene Alphonsa Roberson

   Gene Alphonsa Roberson, 78, of 303 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019, in his son's home in Hertford.

   Mr. Roberson was born in Bertie County on July 14, 1941, and was the son of the late Alphonso Elliott "A.E." and Mary Elizabeth Byrum Roberson. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Center Hill-Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Toppin and Diane Roberson, and by a brother, Percy Norman Roberson.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 43 years, Sheila Lane Roberson; his son, Bryant Alphonsa Roberson and wife, Brandi; his granddaughter, Bailee Jo "Frog" Roberson, all of Hertford; his sister, Kathryn Cartwright of Camden; two aunts, Kathleen Byrum and Eleanor Byrum; special friends, David and Cindy Parrotte, all of Tyner; seven nieces and nephews; and many extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Lennie Waters. A private burial will follow on the Roberson Farm on Happy Home Road, Tyner. Friends may join the family Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at Bryant and Brandi's home, 161 Cottonwood Drive, Hertford.
