Gay Markham Girdlestone, 64, of Grandy, NC, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in her home where she was being cared for by family.

Born in Pasquotank County on April 1, 1960, Gay was the daughter of the late Ernest Harrell Markham and Elma Ilene Quidley Markham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Darlene Gray, and by her twin brother, Harrell Ray Markam.

For many years she had been employed as a housekeeper and breakfast bar host. She was a member of Franklinville, NY Auxiliary Post 9487 of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 Other enjoyments included her love of the outdoors and cooking and hosting others for get-togethers.

Surviving are her two daughters, Amanda Corbell (Tina) and Mary Ann Corbell, both of Grandy; two sons, Steven Girdlestone (Missy) and Nick Girdlestone (Brenda), both of Delevan, NY; three sisters, Linda Storey of Virginia Beach, VA, Sandra Fix of Lexington, VA, and Lisa Hall of Elizabeth City; four brothers, Ronald Markham of Elizabeth City, Donald Markham of Hertford, Douglas Markham of Currituck, and Michael Markham of Lexington; five grandchildren, Kylie, Bella, Madeleine, Finley, and Rylee; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Highland Park Cemetery, 1161 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City. Friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made either to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
