Fred Thomas Wynn, Jr., 70, of 141 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in ECU Health Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mr. Wynn was born in Tarboro on January 12, 1952, and was the son of the late Fred T. Wynn, Sr. and Bessie Mae Carlisle Wynn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry L. Wynn.
Employed for many years in the grocery industry, many in the area will remember Fred from the various stores where he worked, always smiling and eager to help the customers. He served the public at the Edenton Winn-Dixie for 21 years, Food Lion of Ahoskie for 10 years and lastly at Piggly-Wiggly in Plymouth where he retired after 7 years.
Most important in Fred’s life was his love of family, his love of Kathie, his wife and soulmate of 40 years, and the pride he held for his children and grandchildren that absolutely lit up his world and put a smile on his face. Always, he was happiest when at home on “Wynnshill”, with family and where he could watch the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, or an episode of Star Trek. You could also find him outside on his mower with the radio playing old country and rock and roll music. Another enjoyment was his membership at Edenton Church of God serving his Lord.
Surviving is his wife, Kathie Woodley Wynn, and their children, Austin Mackenzie Dallas Wynn (wife, Amanda and son, Dallas Ryan Wynn) of Edenton and Michelle Ortiz (husband, A.J. and children, Mackenzie Michelle, Scarlett Cheyenne and Derek Justin Ortiz) of Fredericksburg, VA. Also surviving is his sister, Patricia Gilmartin of Hertford, and brother, Joseph B. Wynn of Edenton.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Church of God and will be conducted by Pastor Bill Braswell. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church immediately following the service.
Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
