Francis Gordon DiMisa

   Francis Gordon “Frank” DiMisa, 89, of 104 Lake Wood Drive, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in ECU Health Bertie Hospital, Windsor, NC.

   Mr. DiMisa was born in Washington, DC on February 24, 1934, and was the son of the late Salvatore “Sam” and Mary Virginia Gordon DiMisa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Clements; and by his brothers, Joseph and James DiMisa.

   Educated at Wilson Teachers College where he received his Bachelor’s degree, and later at George Washington University where he received his Master’s, he retired from the Prince George’s County, Maryland Public School System where he worked as a Guidance Counselor on the high school level. A member for many years of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in LaPlata, MD, since moving in 2006, he and his wife had attended St. Ann Catholic Church in Edenton. He served in the District of Columbia Air National Guard.

   Known to his family and close friends as “Sonny”, he is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Joyce Raybold DiMisa; two sons, James Francis DiMisa (wife, Amy) of Swanton, MD, and Joseph Mark DiMisa (wife, Christine) of Centerville, OH; five grandsons, Christopher (wife, Rachel), Sam (wife, Megan), and Ryan, Michael, and Connor DiMisa. His first great-grandchild is due to be born in July.

   A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, February 11th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.

   A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 17th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 8855 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677. Friends may visit with the family in the church the hour prior to services. The burial will follow Sacred Heart Cemetery, La Plata, MD.
