Flora Ward Hurdle

   Flora Ward Hurdle, 92, of Belvidere, NC, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 in her son's home in Belvidere, where she was surrounded by her family.

  Mrs. Hurdle was born in Perquimans County on April 15, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Thomas D. and Mattie Twine Ward. A homemaker, loving wife, and caring mother, she devoted her early years to her family and the family farm, helping out where needed. After raising her nine children she worked in the Men’s Department at Belk. After retiring, she volunteered both at the front desk at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, and also with many of her dear friends playing Bingo with the residents at Country Oaks Manor. She was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee "E.L." Hurdle, Jr.; her granddaughter, Stacey Davis; her great-grandson, Anderson Davis; and by her sisters Della Fay Allen and Dorothy Johnson.

   Surviving are her nine children, Thomas Hurdle (Margie), Debbie Davis (Leonard), Donald Hurdle (Dina), Vickie Harris (Van), Sharon Lougee (Paul), Nancy “Buzz” Hartman (Clyde), David Hurdle (Claudia), Michael Hurdle (Roxanne), and T.W. Hurdle (Jana); a sister, Loretta Stallings; 14 grandchildren, Leonard Davis, Jr. (Sandra), Bryan Hurdle, Ashley Stoop (Brad), Bo Harris (Sherri), Stefanie Lee (Tony), Kristi Mann (Jody), Derrick Hurdle (Taylor), Katie Jones (Anthony), Tucker Hurdle, Lindsay Rash (James), Amanda Hurdle, Danielle Hurdle, Cassie Hurdle and J.T. Hurdle; 15 great-grandchildren, Bryan, Parker, Austin, Avery, Alex, Ashton, Carter, Max, Ace, Aubree, Maggie, Adrian, Asher, Alyssa and James, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church, Hobbsville, and will be officiated by The Revs. Gary Nistler and Gene Tyson. A private burial will be held in the family cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Saturday, and all other times at the home of Dina and Donald Hurdle, 1287 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, NC.
