Evelyn Palmer Thomas

   Evelyn Elizabeth Palmer Thomas, 93, of 248 Taylor Mill Road, Eure, NC, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 in ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

   Mrs. Thomas was born in Syracuse, New York on September 5, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Blanchard Palmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Mark and Brian Thomas; and in 2006 by her husband of 38 years, Robert Benjamin “Bob” Thomas.

   Mrs. Thomas worked for many years as a Crossing Guard with Endicott, New York Public School System. A Catholic by faith, before failing health, she had attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Ahoskie.

   Among her survivors is a granddaughter, Jessica Hardison (husband, Kevin, and their sons, Alex and Brayden) of Chesapeake, VA; and a nephew who lived with and helped provide care for her, Mitchell Thomas of Eure. Also surviving are other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.

   A small graveside funeral service for family and friends will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Eure Christian Church Cemetery, and will be conducted by the Reverend Robert L. Schmid, Jr., Pastor of St. Charles Church. At a later time, after the busy holiday season of plans and travels, there will be a Memorial Mass held at St. Charles.
