Evelyn Jernigan McCleney

   Evelyn Jernigan McCleney, 98, a former longtime resident of Bennett Street in Washington, NC, and more recently of The Bayberry Inn in Roanoke Rapids, rejoined her husband, Carey, on Sunday, November 8, 2020.

   Mrs. McCleney was born on March 19, 1922 in Bertie County and was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Bessie Ellis Jernigan. The widow of William Carey McCleney, she was a homemaker and faithful wife for 67 years.

   In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Forrest Jernigan; and three sisters, Garnett J. Alexander, Norma J. Bulls, and Janet J. Bulls.

   Surviving are her daughter, Jean M. Turk of Roanoke Rapids; her son, William O. “Bill” McCleney of Richmond, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

   Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13^th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. A private burial will follow on the family plot in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the service.
