Etta Jernigan Jones

   Etta Olivia Jernigan Jones, 89, of 147 Hazelton Road, Gates, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

   Mrs. Jones was born in Gates County on October 31, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Albert B. and Ada Smith Jernigan. A homemaker and farmer’s wife, she was a member of Savage’s United Methodist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Thomas Earl Jones; an infant son, Robert Earl Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dan Boyce; two sisters, Gurney Wilkins and Beatrice Blackwell; and three brothers, A.B., Mallie, and Sawnie Jernigan.

   Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Faye Jones of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Regina Brown, Tammy Brinkley, Lisa Wiley, Paul Boyce, and Jack Boyce; and nine great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Savage’s United Methodist Church and will be conducted by The Rev. Casey Estler and The Rev. Lafayette Wilkins, Jr. A private burial will be in the family cemetery on the farm. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Friday, or all other times at Paul and Armecia’s home, 410 Black Mingle Road, Gates.
