Ernestine Jones “Miss Teeny” Strickland, 87, of 164 Hertford Beach Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 in her home where she was being cared for by family and dearest family friends, Bobbie Simmons and Peggy Wood.
Mrs. Strickland was born in Mecklenburg County on December 16, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Ernest Osman and Rachel Brooks Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 56 years, Bob Bennett “Big Bob” Strickland, and by a sister, Gwen Williams.
A 1955 graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA, she had been active in various school activities and was proud to have been a cheerleader. Retired as a Personnel Officer from SunTrust Bank following 36 years of employment, she and her late husband also owned and operated Strick’s Family Campground for 54 years. An avid racer and racing fan, she was the 1982 Kart Champion with Albemarle Kart Club (AKC) where she was a member for many years. Among her other enjoyments and activates in life included her love of water skiing and in earlier years she had been active with Girl Scouts. Miss Teeny will be remembered fondly for her acts of kindness and love towards others.
Surviving is her son, Bob B. Strickland, Jr. of Hertford; her daughter, Vicki Strickland of Wetumpka, AL; two grandchildren, Brooks Beasley (husband, Will) of Wetumpka and Jason Loveless of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Landon, Aiden, and Grayson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by the Rev. Carroll Bundy and family friend, Robert Jackson. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
