Elbridge Bright Smith, Sr.

   Elbridge Bright Smith, Sr., 84, of 104 Magnolia Drive, Edenton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

   Mr. Smith was born in Chowan County on August 28, 1934, and was the son of the late Robert Wilson and Mary Lois Todd Smith. A machinist with Edenton Cotton Mill for many years, he later retired from Pelikan Corporation. A member of First Christian Church in the Historic Mill Village of Edenton, he was a retired charter member of the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad, and had retired from the North Carolina Army National Guard after 42 years of service.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Gloria Jean Roth and Carolyn Burgess; and by his brother, Robert E. Smith.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 62 years, Kay Frances Yount Smith; his son, Elbridge B. Smith, Jr. and wife, Louann, of Edenton; two sisters, Ruth Groff of Hubert, NC and Mary Watson of Edenton; a brother, John A. Smith of Hertford; three grandchildren, Robert Smith and wife, Sherlynn, Cammy Smith and Erin Smith; and two great-grandsons, Bentley and Judson Smith.

   A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Bernie Hurdle. Friends may join the family at his son’s home, 1051 Macedonia Road, Edenton.
