Elaine Holder Taylor

   Elaine Holder Taylor, 92, of 243 Mt. Gould River Road, Merry Hill, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in her home where she was being cared for by her family.

   Mrs. Taylor was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on April 6, 1928, and was the only child of the late Ira Andrew and Mary Louis Cullipher Holder. A graduate of UNC-Wilmington, she was a retired teacher having taught in both the North Carolina and Virginia public school systems. In earlier years she sang for the USO, contributing her time and musical talent for the entertainment of the troops. She was a longtime member of Riverside Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both her husbands, Robert Wilson Owens and Floyd Collins Taylor.

   Surviving are four daughters, Patsy Taylor McCulley and husband, Mac, of Port St. Lucie, FL, Sandra Owens Douglas and husband, Rodney, of Thomasville, and Emmie Lou Taylor and Cherry Ann Taylor, both of Merry Hill; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Douglas, Michael Douglas and wife, Pam, Kristin Caputo, Kristopher Caputo, Danielle Shuey, and Jessica Shuey and fiancé Landon Rothgeb; and four great-grandchildren, Caroline and Carter Douglas, Chase Rothgeb, and Gavin Rodriguez.

   A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Riverside Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Gene Martin and the Rev. Al Jarrell. A private burial will be held in the family cemetery at the home.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 1206 NC 45 North, Merry Hill, NC 27957.
