Douglas Albert Hollowell

   Douglas Albert Hollowell, 81, of 433 Dillard’s Mill Road, Tyner, NC, and a former longtime resident of Portsmouth, VA, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Brookdale of Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Hollowell was born in Portsmouth on April 28, 1942, and was the son of the late Luke and Hulda Marie Asbell Hollowell.

   The retired owner of Douglas A. Hollowell, PC, with offices in Portsmouth, Elizabeth City, and Edenton, he was a CPA for 45 years and a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of CPAs, and other professional organizations. While living in Virginia, he and his wife were active in the Southeastern Virginia Fox Hunters Association where for 25 years he oversaw the annual field trials. Since returning to the family farm in Chowan County, he was a faithful member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, and was a member of the Chowan County Fireman’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees.

   Surviving is his wife of nearly 55 years, Ida Edwards Hollowell; two daughters, Patricia Carol Harding of Mooresville, and Donna H. Winborne (husband, Rob) of Tyner; a son, Douglas A. Hollowell, Jr. of Tyner; a sister, Marlena Hollowell of Roanoke, VA; a nephew, Mike Hollowell; and five grandchildren, Hutch, Matthew and Johnny Winborne, and Katlyn and Luke Harding.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Taylor. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the Family Life Center of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
