Dorothy Henry Major

   Dorothy Henry Major, 94, formerly of both Emporia and Chesapeake, VA and more recently of Edenton, NC, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mrs. Major was born in Emporia on May 25, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Henry and Minnie Morton Henry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Major, a sister, Mary Anderton, and by a grandson, Justin.

   A retired customer service representative from the Navy Exchange in Portsmouth, VA, she was a lifelong member of Indian River Baptist Church. An avid bowler, sports and baseball fan, she loved her family, others, and especially children.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Dorothy Major Rakowski (Dan) and Janice Rae Major, all of Edenton; two sons, Aubrey Lee Major (Barbara) and Paul William Major, all of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Richard Henry of Lawrenceville, VA; six grandchildren, Ashley, Wendy, Shannon, Jason, Lindsay, and Lauren; and seven great-grandchildren.

   In accordance with her wishes, no formal service is planned.
