Dorothy Hollowell Liles

   Dorothy Mae Hollowell “Dot” Liles, 84, of 144 Folly Road, Sunbury, NC, died Monday, November 20, 2023 in her home where she was cared for by her family.

   Mrs. Liles was born in Gates County on October 28, 1939 and was the only daughter of the late Glavin W. “Dick” and Mary Gray Hollowell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Speight Liles; her son, Sammy Liles; and by her brothers, Richard Earl and Henry F. Hollowell.

   A graduate of Sunbury High School, she had retired as the secretary and bookkeeper of the family business, Grant’s Texaco in Hobbsville, and in earlier years had worked as a trimmer at Don Juan Mfg. Co. in Hertford.

   Surviving are two daughters, Doris L. Mathias (husband, Tony) of Corapeake and Linda L. Wiggins (husband, Jimmy) of Hobbsville; a son, Jimmy Liles (wife, Robin) of Sunbury; six grandchildren, Jennifer Mathias, Amanda Pierce (husband, Nick), Daniel Lee Mathias (wife, Kristin), Jamey Grant (wife, Jenna), Tyler Grant, and Derek Liles; and two great-grandchildren, Evelina and Liam Grant.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. A private burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery in Sunbury. Friends may visit with the family at Linda and Jimmy’s home 256 Burke Road, Hobbsville.
