Doris Brown Rodormer

Doris Brown Rodormer, 94, of Lighthouse Point, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2019, in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Rodormer was born on October 22, 1924, in Greenville, NC, to Nannie Hudson Brown, (deceased December 1976), and Oscar Hubert Brown, (deceased February 1939). She was raised in Edenton and Greenville, NC with her two younger brothers, Oscar Hubert Brown, II, and Miles Gordon Brown, both of whom preceded her in death. A graduate of Greenville High School in 1941, and East Carolina Teacher’s College, now East Carolina University, in 1947, she worked in office positions in North Carolina and Georgia before working as an accountant with National Cash Register Co. in Charlotte, NC. In 1955, she married John F. Petty, whose work as a salesman required the couple to move frequently, before settling in Lighthouse Point, Florida in 1963. She and Mr. Petty were divorced in 1971, and in 1979 she married George W. Rodormer, who survives her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Martha B. Petty (Mark Weisburd) of Chapel Hill, NC; her son, William M. Petty, of North Palm Beach, FL; her grandson, Trevor Fugett Petty, of Detroit, MI; her stepdaughter, Kim Fruda, of Daytona Beach, FL; her stepson, George Ward Rodormer, also of Daytona Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rodormer loved life and lived a very full one. She and Mr. Rodormer traveled widely, and together were strong supporters of the National Park System. Mrs. Rodormer was a welcomed guest at the numerous South Florida restaurants at which she and her husband often dined. Friendly and outgoing, she never met a stranger. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
