Doris Yount Herman

Doris Jeanette Yount Herman, 88, a long-time resident of Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 of natural causes in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

Born on May 18, 1932 in Granite Falls, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mattie Ward Yount. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, William N. “Bill” Herman; her daughter, Esther Herman Bourg, (husband, Joseph, deceased); two sisters, Dora Stillman and Jane Riddick; and a brother, Ned Yount, Sr.

Retired from Herman’s Tax Service, she had also many years ago worked as a school crossing guard for Brentwood Elementary School in Bay Shore, NY, and held a number of other jobs.

A member of American Legion Post #40 Ladies Auxiliary, she was known for being a “happy camper” and willing to give you the “shirt off her back”. She enjoyed board games, and especially large family get-togethers. She adored her family and loved everyone. She was the “neighborhood mom” that was in the midst of the volleyball game as well as the one serving the Kool-Aid. She also happened to be an amazing cook, and an avid Bingo fanatic that would play more Bingo racks than was humanly possible. One of a kind, she will be sorely missed…her and her beautiful and spunky spirit.

Surviving are two sons, Harold Herman (wife, Toni) and Isidore “Izzie” Herman (wife, Adrienne); two sisters, Rachel Sadler and Kay Smith; a brother, Acie Lewis; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, with another due to be born.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9th, at 1:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by long-time family friend, Rev. Gary Williams. Due to the restrictions associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks and social distancing measures should be followed by those attending.
