Don Bunch

   Donald Wayne “Don” Bunch, 69, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in the ICU of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital

   Born in Edenton, NC on July 6, 1953, Don was the son of the late Irvin and Evelyn Forehand Bunch and grew up in the Hobbsville community of Gates County with his three sisters

   Don graduated from Gates County High School in 1971 and one week later moved to Chesapeake, working as a heavy equipment operator and gaining knowledge in all things construction. In the early years of his career, he worked at Suburban Grading and Utility Construction, the Ford assembly plant, and Phil R. Hobbs & Son. Later he founded D&D Construction and Hampton Roads Landscaping and operated those businesses until retirement. In later years he split his time between his homes in Chesapeake and Kill Devil Hills, NC.

   Don was a collector…didn’t matter just what it was…and he loved a good auction. He liked to take his boat out fishing and ponder life as he looked out at the water. He had many lifelong friends and loved to catch up with them, over the phone or in person, often times when they least expected it. Raised in the fellowship of Hobbsville Baptist Church, he was very proud of his multi-year Perfect Attendance Sunday School pins. In his later years, he was a member and deacon at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church on the Outer Banks. Other memberships included both the Indian River Masonic Lodge #252 and Great Bridge Masonic Lodge #257.

   Surviving is his daughter, Lisa Dullaghan (husband, Mike) of Roanoke, VA; his son, Eric Bunch of Vail, CO; granddaughters, Caroline, Catie, Carter and Camryn Dullaghan, and his grandson, Ozzie Bunch. Also surviving are his sisters, Jo Bunch of Charlotte, NC, Wanda Variot (husband, Don) of Wilmington, NC, and Bobbi Warmack of Roanoke Rapids, NC; other extended family members, and many, many friends.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. Masonic Rites will be accorded in the church and a private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
