Dolna Mae Proctor

   Dolna Mae Riddick Proctor, 89, of Ocean Highway South, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, October 15, 2023 in ECU Health Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mrs. Proctor was born in Gates County on October 1, 1934, one of seven children born to the late Jake and Rosa Lee Ward Riddick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, Thomas Andrew “Tom” Proctor; and by brothers, Howard and Albert Riddick.

   Employed as a bookkeeper with Winslow-Blanchard Motor Company in Hertford for 20 years, she later operated her own sewing business, Custom Interiors. A member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Bethel Ruritan Club, she also served her community through the ladies auxiliary of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department.

   Surviving are her children, Deborah Gail Hurt (husband, Bill) of Elizabeth City, Sue Stokely (husband, Mike) of Hertford, and Dr. Wayne Proctor (wife, June) of Edenton; three sisters, Eloise Hollowell of Hertford and Annie Marie Ward and Carolyn Harris, both of Suffolk, VA; a brother, Fred Riddick of Sunbury; four grandchildren, Brandon Stokely (wife, Camrin), Tommy Stokely (wife, Lynn), Stuart Proctor, and Sarah Proctor Norwood (husband, Jonathan); and five great-grandchildren, Katelynn Smith (husband, Ben), and Logan, Willow, Aiden, and Addison Stokely.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her son, Dr. Wayne Proctor. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
