Dixie Carol Phelps Clifton, 82, formerly of Creswell, and more recently The Tyrrell House, died Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.
Mrs. Clifton was born in Washington County on December 15, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Samuel David and Lillian Gertrude Spruill Phelps. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrell Reid Clifton; by sisters, Neva Perry and Nina Phelps, and by her brother, Wade Phelps.
Retired from George C. Moore Company in Edenton, she was raised in the fellowship of Mt. Tabor Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Jeffrey Wade Clifton and Tony Reid Clifton, both of Creswell, and Samuel Paul Clifton (wife, Hayley) of Edenton; a sister, Betty Lou Cohoon of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Nichole Clifton, Sam Clifton, Iver Clifton, and Drake Rose (wife, Carlee); and four great-grandchildren, Killian Morris, Emmalyn Morris, Syler Rose, and Karsyn Rose.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 18th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home and Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Greg Biggs. The burial will be at a later time in Azalea Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
