Dennis Parker Newbern, 72, of Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.
Born in Tarboro on June 6, 1952, Parker was the son of the late Percy Leon Newbern, Sr. and Theresa Watson Newbern Dail, and the stepson of the late Lofton Dail. In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by a brother, Percy L. Newbern, Jr.
Retired as Water Operations Supervisor from the Town of Edenton, in earlier years he had also been employed as the Public Works Director with the Town of Hertford. Parker participated in many community activities and events having enjoyed membership in Ducks Unlimited, the Perquimans County Jaycees, Beech Springs-Bear Swamp Ruritans, Bear Swamp Hunt Club, the Hertford Volunteer Fire Department and Albemarle Firemen’s Association. Among most of these endeavors, he served in leadership capacities.
Surviving are Kimberly Stallings Williamson (husband, Jason, and their daughter, Hailee) and Michael Stallings (wife, Abby, and their daughter, Mallorie); his brother, Bill Newbern (wife, Brenda); his sister-in-law, Nancy Newbern, all of Hertford; his nieces and nephews, Jeff Newbern, Rachel Kelly (husband, Devon), and Molly Toler (husband, Colby); and great nieces and nephews, Jaxon Ward, Cora and Lydia Toler, and Dean Kelly.
A celebration of Parker’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Minister Greg Biggs. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, September 3, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the home of Bill and Brenda Newbern, 197 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hertford Fire Department, PO Box 32, Hertford, NC 27944.
