Denise Mann Winslow “Denney” Ellis, 56, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton, NC.
“Denney” was from Perquimans County, and was the daughter of Elva Mann Winslow of Hertford, and the late Cecil Edward Winslow. A graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education, she was a former teacher in the Edenton-Chowan School System, having taught kindergarten at both the White Oak and D.F. Walker schools. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ann Skipper and husband, Chris, of Hertford, and Marisa Scott Ellis of Edenton; a brother, Buck Winslow of Raleigh; two sisters, Linda W. Speary and husband, Cabe, of Edenton, and Suzanne W. Phelps and husband, Mike, of Roper; four grandchildren, Landyn, Nathan, Brayden, and Grace; two nephews, Dylan Phelps and Jackson Speary; and all of her many special friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by the Revs. David Brooks, Gary Stanley, and Thomas Biggs. A private burial will be on the family plot in Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford.
Friends may join the family Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at her mother’s home, 723 Gaston Drive, Hertford.
