Elvin Deane “Deanie” Modlin Perry, 86, of 076 Hill Lane Road, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 29, 2019.
Mrs. Perry was born in Hertford County on July 3, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Clarence Elmer and Lula Caroline “Carrie” Hughson Modlin. After moving to Gates County as a teenager, she was a 1950 graduate of Gatesville High School. A homemaker, she was and active and faithful member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, its W.M.U., and had served as both a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bertell “Jimmy” Perry, Jr.; her son, James Michael Perry; two sisters, Thelma Modlin Ewell and Carrie Odell Modlin Mitchell; and by a brother, Shelton Modlin.
Surviving are her daughter, Laura Perry and husband, Matt Lillich, of Murrells Inlet, SC; her daughter-in-law, Marcia Perry and her daughter, Lisa Moore and husband, Jay, all of Eure. Also surviving are her sister, Javan Beitinger of Anchorage, AK; her brother, James Modlin of Windsor, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Joe McKnight. The burial will be on the family plot in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
The family extends special appreciation to Marcia, whose moving in allowed Deanie to stay in her home, as well as Miss Helen from Home Life Care, and the hospice caregivers from Vidant Home Health & Hospice for the exceptional comfort and care they provided during these last months of declining health.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Eure Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 10, or to Cool Spring Baptist Church, in care of Merwin Bauerle, 460 US Hwy 13 South, both in Eure, NC 27935.
