David William Johnson

   David William Johnson, age 80, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 in his home following a long battle with cancer.

   Mr. Johnson was born in Norfolk, VA on September 4, 1943 to the late Garlon William Johnson and Emma Mae Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Randy Eric Reed and David Alan Johnson, and by a great-grandson, Draven Day.

   A veteran, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his service in the military, he became a lifelong carpenter who dedicated his craftsmanship by building many quality homes across Virginia and North Carolina for numerous contractors. He was a devout Christian who always put God before himself. David was an avid guitar player who in earlier years traveled around to local churches to sing and play gospel music with his wife. A passion of his was to be on any body of water with a fishing pole.

   Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Ima Jean Johnson; two sons, Bob Reed (Charlene) and Ricky Reed; two daughters-in-law, Billie Reed and Gina Johnson, all of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Garlon Thomas Johnson of Moncks Corner, SC; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

   A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
