David Wayne Garrett, 49, of 471 Folly Road, Sunbury, NC, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.
David was born in Norfolk, VA on September 9, 1971, and was the son of Shirley King of Corapeake and Don Garrett (wife, Kathie Ann) of Hobbsville. He was a commercial sales representative with Colony Tire Corporation in Suffolk. A member of both the Corapeake Hunt Club in Gates County and the Juniper Creek Hunt Club in Keysville, VA, he also enjoyed the fun he had being a member of the United Pullers of Carolina, a branch of the National Truck Pullers Association, and running his truck, “One More Time”. Hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, riding his tractor, and just being outdoors were some of life’s greatest joys. He loved his friends, his customers, serving as “grill master” for events, and doing for others.
Raised in the fellowship of Beulah Baptist Church, those early lessons taught him to be a fine example of a man, a son, a husband, a father, and a “paw paw”.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Leigh Moore Garrett; his son, Dylan Garrett (Olivia Davis) of Tyner; two daughters, Faith Thorne (Trey Chappell) of Gates, and Miranda Thorne of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Brenda Garrett of Corapeake; and five grandchildren, Layla, Landon, Karter Grace, Brantley, and Huntleigh.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery near the home on Folly Road, and will be conducted by Pastors Junior White and Wayne Eason.
No formal visitation is planned, and masks and social distancing are encouraged for those visiting the residence or attending the funeral.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the countless prayers on David’s and their behalf, and for the love shown in so many ways, as they fought together this battle against the Delta Variant of the Covid-19 Virus.
Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting with arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
