David Lee Barnes

 David Lee Barnes, 80, of Camden, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.

 Mr. Barnes was born in Tyrrell County on December 4, 1944, and was the son of the late Lee Reubin and Dixie Vernon Holiway Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Katie Weatherly and Rosalee Ainsley. A retired lineman from CenturyLink following over 35 years of employment, he was a member of Camden Church of Christ. He was a Navy veteran.

 Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Mildred McPherson Barnes; a daughter, Jesse Wilham; a son, Jon Barnes, both of Virginia; a sister, Peggy Wintjen of Kansas; and five grandchildren.

 Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Minister Michael McNamara. A private burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Monday and other times at Michael and Marie Cuthrell’s home, 147 Stevenson Drive, Hertford.
