   Darrell James Thompson, 65, of Gates, NC, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

   Mr. Thompson was born in Roswell, New Mexico on November 6, 1955, and was the son of the late Raymond Everett Thompson and Mary Griego Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Flowers; and by a brother, Larry Thompson.

   A machinist in metal fabrication, he had worked with R & L Machine Shop in Chesapeake, VA. A veteran, he had served in the United States Air Force.

   Surviving is his wife, Ruth Thompson; two daughters, Jamie Langston (Chris) of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Sarah Taylor (Justin) of Gates; two sons, Jim Thompson of Andrews, SC, and Jeff Hale (Megan) of Sunbury; two sisters, Teresa Wiggins of Troutman, and Betsy Prosser of Andrews, SC; and seven grandchildren, Christian, Dylan, Hayley, Avery, Lilly, Riley, and Adalynn.

   A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 1st, at 2:00 p.m. in Abundant Hope Baptist Church, and will be conducted by the pastor, Dr. Walter Black. No formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit with the family at Sarah and Justin’s home, 30 Louise Street, Gates.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Abundant Hope Baptist Church, 700 Willeyton Road, Gates, NC 27937.
