Cynthia Louise Cooper Gandee

Cynthia Louise Cooper “Cindy” Gandee, 77, of 117 Blount Street, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in her home where she was cared for by her family.

Cindy was born in New Haven, CT on February 8, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Gerald and Marion Marshall Cooper of Wallingford, CT.

A graduate of Aurora University with a degree in elementary education, Cindy met her husband, Thomas Gandee, while attending AU and they were married two weeks after graduating. The early years of her marriage were devoted to raising their three children. This was her primary focus until they were teenagers. It was during these years that she developed her passion for interior decorating. Working as Product Design Coordinator at Floor Coverings International in Atlanta, GA, she selected flooring products and styles. Moving to Edenton in 2006, she opened her boutique store and design studio, “SUMMERHOUSE”. She later operated her interior design business as Cynthia Gandee Interiors, LLC, and opened a new store, “A STILL LIFE”, a gift and specialty shop.

Throughout her life one of her passions and talents was the piano. She had the privilege of accompanying choirs and chorales throughout high school, college, and at various churches over the years. More recently, she had led a chorale group, Laudato, as well as for Children’s Church at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she and Tom had been faithful members since their move to Edenton.

Surviving is her husband, Thomas Gandee; their children, Jill Coulter, Jeff Gandee, and Steve Gandee; a sister, Susan Drabic; a brother, Gerry Cooper; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8th, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and will be conducted by The Reverend Melody Purdue. The burial will follow in the church memorial garden. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception to be held at the shop Cindy owned, “A STILL LIFE”, 212 South Broad Street, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Albemarle Home Care & Hospice, 1507 North Road Street #2, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. It is through this organization that Cindy was able to receive such wonderful comfort and care as she rested at home.
