Cynthia Ann Ellis "Cindy" Hubers of 5255 Highway 99 North, Pantego, North Carolina, entered eternal glory to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from the ECU Hospice House in Greenville, North Carolina.
She was born in Campbell County Kentucky on June 13, 1951, to the late James Elias Ellis and Anna Mae Jones Ellis. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Don Lee Hubers, four children and fourteen grandchildren whom she adored.
Cindy worked in various positions for her father and brother at Pungo River Pharmacy over the years. She was a Customer Service Representative and Dispatcher for Tideland EMC for twenty five years and a faithful member of Covenant United Reformed Church. She spent a great deal of her time devoted to family, church and the Christian school; a theme that carried throughout her life. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, she encountered many adventurous moves with the Ellis family including Muncie, Indiana, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Columbus, Ohio, Belmont, Ohio, Pink Hill, North Carolina and then settling in Belhaven, North Carolina. She married Don Lee Hubers on November 21, 1975. Her love for Christ, warm encouragement and contagious optimism were a blessing to many. The couple raised four children and fourteen grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She found immense pleasure in caring for them and cheering them on from the bleachers of their many activities. She would state that “Grammy is my name and spoiling is my game”. She greatly enjoyed organizing events and spent many years serving the Ladies Auxiliary of Terra Ceia Christian School helping with fall auctions, suppers, fundraisers and Dutch Festivals. She aided in coordinating church women's retreats and Hubers’ Family Reunions. She enjoyed baking and cooking, especially showing her love for people with a pan of fresh cinnamon rolls. She had a deep love and commitment to her Tideland EMC family. She cherished her job and coworkers.
Along with her husband, Cindy is lovingly remembered by her four children, Taffy Klaassen and husband Roger of Belhaven, North Carolina; Tanya Velasquez and Husband Steven of Wendell, North Carolina; Troy Hubers and wife Kathi of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Kelly Rouse and husband Christopher of Belhaven, North Carolina. Her life was also greatly enriched with fourteen grandchildren, Shelby Klaassen McRoy (Blake), Zack Klaassen, Wyatt Hubers, Katie Hubers, Ethan Hubers, Waylon Hubers, Kassidy Hubers, Emilie Hubers, Luke Rouse, Julia Rouse, Ryan Rouse, Taylor Rouse, Soren Velasquez and Leo Velasquez; and siblings, Scott Ellis (Mary Helen), Debbie Ellis and David Ellis.
A celebration of Cindy's life in Christ will be held on Tuesday, January 21, at 10:00 am at Covenant United Reformed Church, 24599 Highway 264 East, Pantego, North Carolina, and will be officiated by Chris Rouse. The burial will follow at Davis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zack Klaassen, Wyatt, Ethan and Waylon Hubers, Luke and Ryan Rouse, and Soren and Leo Velasquez. Friends may join the family on Monday, January 20, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the church and all other times at the home of Don Hubers, 5255 Highway 99 North, Pantego.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Coastal Pregnancy Center, 1312 John Small Avenue, Washington, NC 27889.
Cindy’s earthly journey was detoured more than once by cancer, but she fought it with a determined resilience. Her final battle with cancer led her to her heavenly home where she was no doubt met by her mother Ann who preceded her in death at the age of 97 in 2022. We find comfort in knowing she is resting in the warm embrace of our Heavenly Father.
Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
