Cuthbert Malcolm Copeland, 90, of 715 West Stokes Street, Ahoskie, NC, died on Friday, April 21, 2023 in his home.
Mr. Copeland was born on January 27, 1933 and was the son of and last surviving child born to the late Charles Crackus and Clemma Ward Copeland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sue Cochran Copeland; sisters, Joyce, Marian, and Ida Margaret; and by brothers, Estes and LaVerne.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he retired from Belk’s after a merchandising career that spanned 46 years. He worked at their Edenton, Washington, Ahoskie, and Wilson stores. A former member of the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, he received the North Carolina “Retailer of the Year” award, served on the Ahoskie Town Council for 12 years, and was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie. He had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1955-57.
Surviving are his children, Ann Cooke and husband Bryant of Murfreesboro and Alan Copeland of Utica, NY; four grandchildren, Harrison Cuthbert Revelle and wife Casey of Murfreesboro, Leslie Revelle Lawrence and husband Austin of Colerain, Samantha Copeland Miskic and husband Veldin of Cape Coral, FL, and Stephanie Rae Copeland of Utica, NY; and five great-grandchildren, Graham Charles Lawrence, Bracy Harold Lawrence, Alyssa Pearl Revelle, Daren Charles Miskic, and Lukas Dean Miskic.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, 312 West Main Street, Ahoskie, and will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Paul R. Gilliam, III and Rev. Dr. Jesse Croom. A private inurnment will be held in the church’s columbarium. The family will receive friends in the social hall immediately following the service, or all other time at the residence.
