Curtis Dulaney, Sr.

   Curtis Dulaney, Sr., 83, of 186 Bembury Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 in his home where he was being cared for by family.

   Mr. Dulaney was born in Pasquotank County on July 21, 1939, and was the son of the late Jake Twine and Pearl Sawyer Dulaney and was raised by his mother and step-father, Fred Shaftner Dulaney.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Twine, brothers, Fred Dulaney, Jr. and George Meyer, sisters, Linda Carter, Gail Cooper, and Charlotte Pipes; and by his daughter, Ramona Faloon.

   A Vietnam veteran, he was a Staff Sergeant in the Army with a total of 10 years of service. Later he was employed in the automotive service center with Wal-Mart where he had been employed for a total of 15 years. Curtis was loved by everyone he met, and his family meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He particularly loved playing the game of corn hole with his grandsons and tried winning against them every chance he could. Others enjoyments included his love of train collecting and building train layouts, and also the Sunday drives with his beloved wife.

   Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Esther Russell Dulaney; three children, Terry Pope, Sarah Harrison (Randy), and Curtis Dulaney, Jr. (Chauntelle); a son-in-law, Robert Faloon; a sister, Pettis Anne Kernolde; nine grandchildren, Jewell, Jennifer, Randy Jr., Timothy, Michael, Brandon, Tiffany, Kelly, and Christopher; and 17 great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by Pastor Junior White. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the service on Thursday, and all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any disabled veterans organization.
