Clarence Edward Lupton, Jr., 81, of 1100 Ivy Lane, Raleigh, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at his home where he was surrounded by his family.
Mr. Lupton was born in Pasquotank County on January 27, 1938, and was the son of the late Clarence Edward Lupton, Sr. and Julia Byrum Lupton. A graduate of UNC-CH with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, he began his career in real estate in Richmond, VA. Later he became Vice President of Operations for the Sea Pines Plantation Company, where he managed two communities in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions. He also managed country clubs in Hampton Roads, VA and Hilton Head, SC. Returning to real estate after relocating to Raleigh, he worked as a broker with the exclusive Treyburn community, with Meadowmont Realty, and with his own company, Clarence Lupton Realty.
Mr. Lupton loved spending time with his family, both at home and the beach. He loved sunrises and sunsets, as well as the very best in country cooking. And of course, was an avid Tar Heel fan.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jackson Stokely Lupton. They married on September 9, 1961, and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Also surviving are their three sons and their families, Clarence Edward Lupton, III and wife, Linda, and their children, Spenser, Rachel, Julia, Sam, and Ellie, of Raleigh; Eric Stokely Lupton and wife, Cheryl, of Jamestown; and Eliot Bryan Lupton and wife, Diane, and their children, Caitlyn and Drew, of Miami, FL. In addition there are three great-grandchildren, Finn, Emory, and Bryce.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 30th, at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation immediately following the service.
The family would like to share their appreciation to the friends, family, and neighbors, and to their church family at Hayes Barton, who continually offered their prayers, love, and support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eastern North Carolina Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, (online at www.alz.org); or to Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27608, (online at www.hbbc.org.).
