Charlie Mac Jackson, 95, of 715 Drum Hill Road, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in his home where he was being cared for by family.
Mr. Jackson was born in Gates County on February 7, 1930, and was the son of the late James Howard and Daisy Roberts Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Hancock Jr., a sister, Ethel Hiers, and brother, David Raye Jackson.
A graduate of Gates High School, Class of 1948, he attended Elon College. While attending Elon College he was drafted to serve in the Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he returned to Gates County in 1952 where he farmed until he retired in 2012. A lifelong member of Savage’s Methodist Church, he faithfully served as Chairman of the Administrative Council, Trustee, and other committees for many years. Other community involvement included service on the Gates County FSA Committee from 1983 to 1991.
Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Audrey Holland Jackson; his daughter, Becky J. Hancock; two sons, Gary Jackson (Tricia) and Richie Jackson; a sister, Alice Faye Babb; a brother, James Howard Jackson, Jr.; six grandchildren, Ryan Milteer (Melissa), Matt Jackson (Caroline), Jimmie Hancock, Philip Jackson (Kaitlin), Kate Cassidy (Camron), and Luke Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Seth Bishop, Jackson Milteer, Holly and Reade Jackson, Wyatt Cassidy, and Owen Jackson.
His greatest love was God, family, farming, and vacationing at Cape Colony in Edenton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Savage’s Methodist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Carroll Bundy. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence. A private inurnment will be held in the family cemetery.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to caregivers, Vickie Baker, Renee Tucker, Shelbie Palermo, Pat Good, and to the staff of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for excellent care given to their loved one during their time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Savage’s Methodist Church, Perpetual Fund, 210 Mallory Buck Road, Gates, NC 27937.
