Charles James Spruill

   Charles James "Charlie" Spruill, 71, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake, VA.

   Mr. Spruill was born in Chowan County on August 3, 1948, and was the son of the late Leonce Q. and Mattie Lee Kennedy Spruill. Employed for over 20 years with Foreman's Building Supply, he later retired from Elizabeth City Brick Company. A member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, he enjoyed woodworking, was an avid music and car enthusiast, and loved watching his granddaughter's Motocross Racing events.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Spruill.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 49 years, Mary Frances Miller Spruill; his son, Jason Spruill and wife, Brenna; his granddaughter, Emma "Hot Sauce" Spruill, all of Richlands; his sister, Nancy Sawyer of Elizabeth City; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, and will be conducted by Pastor Wayne Wood. Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of the Albemarle, PO Box 1704, Elizabeth City, NC 27906, or to a charity of one's choice.
