Charles Edward Brohawn, Jr.

   Charles Edward Brohawn, Jr., 89, of 302 Country Club Drive, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in his home.

   Mr. Brohawn was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 14, 1932, and was the son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Harriett Ann Bopst Brohawn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Harriett Ann Arnold.

   A graduate of the University of Kentucky, he had received a Bachelors in Metallurgy. Immediately after graduating he was called to duty in the United States Army, where he served in Arlington, Virginia at a top security facility. After his military obligation was fulfilled, he began his life’s work as a metallurgist, and retired from the Quality Control Department of Commonwealth Aluminum.

   After moving to Edenton in retirement, he continued to work, serving his new home community. A faithful member of Edenton United Methodist Church, he served as a Trustee, was a member of their Joy Choir, helped with the renovation of the former Methodist Home for Children, served meals to the children of the Boys and Girls Club and provided meals and fellowship to cancer patients and their families at the Hope Lodge in Greenville. Other area involvements included singing with the Albemarle Sounds, volunteering nearly 25 years with the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels program, serving as treasurer of the Friends of The Library Board, work with the American Red Cross, the Chowan Arts Council, the Yeopim Ruritan Club and as a poll worker during the Chowan County Elections.

   Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Mariola Rice Brohawn; their children, Lisa Hoggard (husband, Bob) of Merry Hill, and Mark Brohawn (wife, Darlene) of Warrenton, VA; three granddaughters, Ashley Zega (husband, Darren), Heather Means (husband, Jason), and Lindsey White (husband, Christian); and four great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Jacob, Jayson, and Jude Means.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church and will be conducted by his pastor, The Reverend Valerie Tyson. The inurnment will be at a later time in Baltimore.

   The family asks that flowers be omitted, and contributions in his memory be made to any of the volunteer organizations listed above that he so dearly enjoyed.
