Charles Earl Alexander, Sr., 78, of 680 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in his home where he was cared for by his family.
Mr. Alexander was born in Chowan County on January 27, 1942, and was the son of the late Charlie S. and Mildred Twiddy Alexander. In earlier years while living in Oregon, he worked as an Insurance Underwriter. After moving back home to Edenton, he worked for many years with SEECO Eastern, and later with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, retiring from their Tyrrell County Prison. A veteran, he served in the United States Coast Guard, and was a longtime member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Roper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Jones; a brother, Rufus Ray Alexander; and by a granddaughter.
Nothing in life brought Earl more joy than his family. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Virginia Rea Alexander; three daughters, Angela Lovenburg (husband, Terry) of Molalla, OR, Debbie Harper of Fontana, CA, and Amy Morgan Parrish (husband, Wayne) of Edenton; three sons, Charles E. Alexander, Jr. of Elizabeth City, David Alexander (wife, Rhonda) of Molalla, and Ronald Nicholas Morgan of Hertford; a son-in-law, Dan Jones of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and a sister, Marjorie Alexander Rea of Windsor. He was lovingly known as “Pop” or “Pop Pop” to 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are extended family members he loved dearly, Tracy Copeland, her daughter, Sarah (fiancé, Gage Riddick), and their daughter, Kinlynn.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Access Point Church, 518 Coke Ave., Edenton. For those not able to attend, the service will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of Access Point Church. With suggested precautions concerning Covid-19, the family encourages masks and social distancing measures be recognized when visiting them at the residence and at the service.
