Cealon Eugene Davenport

   Cealon Eugene “Gene” Davenport, 77, of 155 Gibson Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Davenport was born in Pasquotank County on July 16, 1946, and was the son of the late Marvin Eugene and Etheleen Cahoon Davenport. A retired aircraft mechanic from the US Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, he was a car enthusiast, master mechanic, and loved working on cars. He was a member of Countryside Church of Christ where he had formerly served as a Sunday school teacher.

   Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Patricia Pierce Davenport; a sister, Darleen Holland (William) of Corapeake; three nieces, Crystal Howard (Ken), Donna Baynard (Ricky), and Lisa Dayton (Charles, Jr.); and two nephews, Curtis Pierce, Jr. (Annie) and John Lassiter (Dominique).

   A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 21, at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his pastor, Minister Daniel Davenport. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Countryside Church of Christ, 100 Countryside Drive, Edenton, NC 27932 or to Perquimans County EMS, PO Box 563, Hertford, NC 27944.
