Catherine “Cathie” Hoskins Thompson passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Cathie was born December 24, 1951 in High Point, NC to Daniel Vernon Hoskins and Lula Hinton Hoskins. Cathie was a loving wife, mother and sister, and is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Raymond “Mark” Thompson.
Cathie graduated from High Point College (now High Point University) with a degree in Education. She worked as a classroom teacher in several preschools in California where she lived before returning to North Carolina. Cathie had many interests but flowers, gardening and her cats were her passion. She was a member of the American Rose Society, San Diego Rose Society and the San Diego Zoological Society and upon returning to North Carolina became a Master Gardener. Cathie was an avid reader, who loved doing word searches and watching NC State University and University of Southern California sporting events. Cathie also enjoyed attending Cruise Nights in La Mesa, CA and El Cajon, CA and attending San Diego Mustang Club events. She attended Cornerstone Church as her health permitted and was a member of Post 40 American Legion Auxiliary and had volunteered at the Chowan County Fair and with the Edenton Lions Club.
Friends and family were very important to Cathie and she had a strong network that she called to check on frequently. She was thoughtful and kind and always wanted to make sure everyone was doing well. Cathie leaves behind a loving family: her husband; a son, Chris Jones (Jennifer); a sister, Joanna King; two sisters-in-law, Shari Farless (Charles) and Gayle Norton; three grandchildren, Brandon, Addison, and Alex; four nieces; one nephew; four great-nieces and seven great-nephews.
Cathie's Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2025, at West Lawn Cemetery, 1909 W. Main St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
Cathie was diagnosed with Cancer in 2020 and for 5 years she courageously persevered and met each challenge with determination, resilience and heart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to cancer and leukemia charities such as the Duke Cancer Institute.
