Catherine Francis Robey Smith

   Catherine Francis Robey Smith, 93, of The Fountains at The Albemarle, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Tarboro, NC.

   Mrs. Smith was born in Chowan County on November 17, 1927, one of six children born to the late Louis E. and Lillie Mae Goodwin Francis. Through her working life she had been a purchasing manager with the former Dorph Corp., and with her husband, Phil, owned and managed the Colonial Motel & Restaurant, and operated an antique and upholstering business. Raised in the fellowship of Macedonia Baptist Church, she had also enjoyed membership in the Edenton Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Philip Robey and Gerald Smith; three sons, Thomas Philip Robey, Marvin Lynn Robey, and Bruce Edward Robey; her sister, Margaret White, and by brothers, Thomas, L.A. “Gus”, and Robert Francis.

   Surviving are her son, Donald L. Robey (wife, Martha) of Lexington, VA; her daughter, Carol Spencer (husband, Jamie) of Virginia Beach; her sister, Lillie Mae Stroud of Edenton; four grandchildren, Nikki Robey Kitchen (husband, Bill), Philip Breckinbridge Robey (wife, Amanda), Cortney Robey Railsback (husband, Nathan), and Amy Johnson Tappen (husband, Jim); and four great-grandchildren, Zack and Ethan Kitchen and Madelyn and Vivienne Robey.

   A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, January 18^th, at 1:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Young. With the restrictions and precautions associated with Covid-19, no formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
