   Thomas Brent Griffin, 66, of 1900 West Queen Street, Edenton, NC, died Monday, February 5, 2024, in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Brent was born in Chowan County on December 12, 1957, and was the son of Jean Jones Griffin of Edenton and the late Thomas Paul Griffin. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Eunice Jones; his paternal grandparents, Asa and Grace Griffin; a great-niece, Faith Griffin; and by his wife’s parents, Leonard M. Sr. and Bertha S. Gower, and her brother, Len Gower.

   A Log Yard Supervisor with CTW Forest Products, Brent was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church, and in earlier years was an avid water skier, participating in and winning tournaments on Pembroke Creek.

   In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Meri Beth Gower Griffin; their children, Ariel Griffin Sawyer (husband, Owen) of Edenton and Asa Brent Griffin of Charlotte; his brother, David Neal Griffin of Edenton; two grandchildren, Clara Grace and O.B. Sawyer; nephews, Brandon N. Griffin (wife, Jamie) of Edenton and Colby N. Griffin of Greenville; a great-niece, Madison S. Griffin, and great-nephew, Mason N. Griffin, both of Edenton; his faithful canine companion, Willow; and by his former sister-in-law, Mona Griffin of Kill Devil Hills.

   Also surviving are Meri Beth’s family, her sister, Melanie Woolard (husband, Ted), and brother, Stanley W. Gower (wife, Rochelle), both of Virginia, a nephew, Ben E. Woolard of Colorado, and nieces, Amanda Jones (husband, Eric), Brittany Taylor (husband, Corey), Sydney L. Gower, and Shelby M. Gower, all of Virginia, and great-nieces and nephews, Kennedy and Gabriel Jones and Macon and Emilia Taylor.

   A graveside service will be held Friday, February 9th, at 11:00 a.m., under the old cedar tree in the yard where he wanted to rest. The Rev. Bob Young will officiate. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the residence.
