Brenda Jones Leche

   Brenda Jones Leche, 77, formerly of Portsmouth, VA, and more recently of Sunbury, NC, was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. On Sunday, November 5, 2023, she passed into the arms of her Savior from her home in Sunbury following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

   Brenda was born in Suffolk, VA on August 6, 1946, and was the daughter of the late John and Gladys Gray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, James “Jimmie” Jones and George “Bret” Leche, and by a grandson, Cody Cohen. She retired from Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA as an operating room technician.

   Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Sheryl “Sheri” Jett (Jim Smith), Catherine “Cathy” Weiss, Robin Leche (Richard Songco), Michelle Goode (Vernon), Sean Leche (Christina), and Pam Sherman (James); 11 grandchildren who affectionately called her “Granny,” Lorrie Jett, Caitlyn Anderson, Shannon Bradshaw, Lauryn Bradshaw, Aiden Burrows, Samantha Epps (Will DeMatteo), Jacob Cohen, Angelita Hall (John), Austin Leche, Jonathan Good, and Dylan Leche; 10 great-grandchildren, Roman Crane, Zakary Shields, Kinsleigh Pendleton, Cambriella Shields, A.J. Epps, Jaxon Epps, Memphis DeMatteo, Freya Cohen, Oliver Leche and Heath Hall.  Additionally, surviving is her sister, Denise Finchum who lovingly cared for her during her illness, and an uncle, Curtis Bradshaw.

   The family wishes to thank Amedisys Home Care and Hospice for the care and support provided during their time of need, and to all the friends and neighbors who so thoughtfully visited and called in to check on them. Also, special thanks are expressed to Dr. Norman Goldin, with whom she had a special bond.

   The family welcomes friends to join them for a celebration of her life on Sunday, November 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Watery Swamp Hunt Club, 176 Water Swamp Road, Sunbury, NC.
