Brenda Phelps Bateman

   Brenda Winnette Phelps “B.B.” Bateman, 69, of 2334 Weston Road, Creswell, NC, died Monday, February 3, 2020, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Vidant Cancer Center in Greenville.

   Mrs. Bateman was born in Washington County on June 28, 1950, and was the daughter of Robert E. “Bobby” Phelps, Sr. of Creswell and the late Juanita Ambrose Phelps. Retired after 27 years as a rural carrier with the United States Postal Service, she had served for many years as the District President of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. A faithful member of Philippi Church of Christ, she had been active in the Ladies Circle, the Praise Team, the Adult Choir, and had served as a Sunday School teacher and as Director of the Youth Choir.

   In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a grandson, John Wayne Patrick; and by her in-laws, Ed and Margaret Bateman.

   Surviving with her father, is her husband of nearly 49 years, Wayne Bateman; three daughters, Amy Patrick and husband, Heath, of Edenton, Lori Armstrong and husband, James “Lump”, of Columbia, and LeAnn McGowan and husband, Quinton, of Edenton; two brothers, Bobby Phelps, Jr. and Ricky Phelps, both of Creswell; four grandchildren, Taylor Patrick and wife, Caroline, Tucker Patrick, Darren Wayne Armstrong and wife, Kayla, and Dava Gray Armstrong; and a great-granddaughter, Charlee Gray Armstrong.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Philippi Church of Christ and will be conducted by the Pastors Glenn Brickhouse, Thomas Biggs, and Larry Woodley. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the church, and all other times at the residence.
