Bobby Gean Russum

   Robert Gean “Bob” Russum, 86, of 1101 E. Main Street, Plymouth, NC, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in his home.

   Mr. Russum was born in Trumann, Arkansas, on October 13, 1934, and was the son of the late Malcolm and Juanita Teague Russum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Robert and Aaron Russum.

   Raised on a cotton farm in Arkansas where he learned the meaning of hard work, at the age of 17 Bob joined the United States Navy and served two tours in Korea. Following his eight years of military service, he settled in the San Diego area of California, where he became a member of the Local 12, International Union of Operating Engineers. Operating heavy equipment, and working off shore, he retired in 1998. Most of his adult life was spent in California, and while living there he met his loving wife Randi, who he was married to for 46 years. In 2002, they moved to The Big Island of Hawaii. Bob immersed himself with the Black Sands Beach community, served on the POA Board, and helped with the Malama Keiki Children’s Program, where he especially enjoyed making and eating peanut butter sandwiches. He enjoyed staying physically fit by walking miles daily with his beloved dogs and buddy Ken. Bob also cherished the good times with all his card playing friends.

   A devoted husband, loving father, and extraordinary “Pops”, he is survived by his loving wife Carole “Randi” Hutchins Russum; daughters, Robbie Evans of San Diego, CA, and Emily Miller of Holden Beach; five grandchildren, Jonathan Jackson of Cary, Taylor Jackson and Allison Miller of Holden Beach, Allison Russum of Spokane, WA, and Alexis Russum of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and a great-granddaughter, Charlee Mac Jackson of Holden Beach. Also surviving are his sister, Irene Pollard of Martin, TN; two brothers, Charles Russum of Parumph, NV and Marlin Russum of Watsonville, CA; a sister-in-law, Elise H. Smith of Plymouth; and a brother-in-law, Charlie Hutchins of Roper.

   In accordance with his wishes, services are private. The family asks that flowers be omitted, and contributions in his memory be made to: The Brunswick Riverwalk Veteran’s Memorial, in care of Sharon A. Niemann, Town Clerk, 63 River Road, Belville, NC 28451.
