Bobby Lee "Poor Boy" Brinkley, Sr., 66, of 197 Woodland Church Road, Hertford, NC, passed away very peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in his home with his family at his side.
Mr. Brinkley was born in Camden County on February 11, 1955, and was the son of the late Otis Robertson Brinkley, Jr. and Thelma Virginia McDonald Brinkley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Evans, and by a brother, Walter David Brinkley.
A retired supervisor from the former Norfolk Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Company, he was an avid truck pulling fan and "burned the roads up" with his own "solid" Ford truck, "Poor Boy" for many years. When racing, the front of his truck read "Poor Boy," and when the truck passed its competitor and left them in the dust, on the rear of the truck it read, "We Bad". Other enjoyments included his love of old money, old guns, and fast, fast women, but his obsession was "that" computer. He also had a deep passion for high quality music in which he had an extensive collection of over 2.3 million songs of many different genres.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 40 years, Charlotte Lynn Perry Brinkley; a daughter, Angel Leigh Brinkley of Hertford; two sons, Bobby Lee Brinkley, Jr. (wife, Jessica) of Hertford and George Redden Brinkley (friend, Amy) of Virginia; a superb and dear friend, Nancy Wilson Facenda of the "Hog Neck's Family" of Hertford; five siblings, Lois Brinkley Tolbert (husband, Richard) of Virginia, Mike "Big M" Brinkley (wife, Wendy "Shy B") of Hertford, Lisa Hipp (husband, Tim) of West Virginia, Steven Travis Brinkley (wife, Angie), and Kimberly Lokey (husband, Glen); a sister-in-law, Mrs. Billie Brinkley (with all respect of brother David), all of Virginia; five grandchildren, Shane William "Termite" Brinkley, Kayleigh Alizabeth "Lady Bug" Brinkley, Joseph Michael "Cave Cricket" White, Jr., Madisyn Leah "Grasshopper" Brinkley, and Preston Grant "Caterpillar" Brinkley.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, September 24, at 3:00 p.m. at the residence.
The family expresses their deep appreciation for all the care and support provided during their times of need to all the staff of Perquimans County Emergency Medical Services; all the physicians, nurses, and staff at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center; to Miss Mary and all the rest of the caring team at Community Home Care & Hospice; and lastly, a very special "shout out" to the officer that is a "Cobra Jet" man and the newest grandfather of the Perquimans County Sheriff's Office, the Honorable Sheriff Shelby White, to Chief Deputy Tom Reid, and the rest of the force.
