Robert Elwood "Bob" Hudson, 85, of Ahoskie, NC, departed this life into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 26, 2019.
Born in Rockingham, NC on June 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Linnie David, Sr. and Rosa Nell Porter Hudson. A lifelong member of the Church of God, he actively served his Savior in many capacities, including having served as a Sunday school teacher, Children's Church Director, and as a member of the Church and Pastor's Council. He was blessed to be able to lead many to the Lord through the life he lived and with his Christian witness.
A brick mason by trade, he worked many years with his brother, Ernest, and then as the owner of Hudson Masonry Company in Virginia Beach, VA. Anyone driving throughout Hampton Roads can still see the many office buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping centers and churches he built. Bob loved work and working, and only stopped when his health no longer permitted him to do so.
In 1957 he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Hassell. Together they were blessed with four children that they raised in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. As his health failed, they moved to Ahoskie to be nearer to family
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Linnie David Hudson, Jr. and Tony Hudson; and by two sisters, Margie Fleming and Virginia Dameron.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Patricia Hassell Hudson; two brothers, Ernest Hudson of Virginia and Mickey Hudson of Florida; three sisters, Rose Tipton and Wencie Tipton, both of Florida, and Cathy Frazier of Virginia; four children, Daphne Lewis (Thomas) of Ahoskie, Jeff Hudson of Whiteville, TN, Greg Hudson (DeeDee) of Orlando, FL, and Susan Dodge (Glen) of New Port Richie, FL; a son of the heart, Gregory Hooks of Buies Creek, MD; 13 grandchildren, Joseph Hinton, Stephanie Liverman (Ed), Lydia Lane (Paul), Aaron Long (Haley), Seth Dodge (Christine), Rebekah Cash (Jason), Austin Hudson, Brooke Hudson, Singleton Hudson, Tiffany Lewis, Lisa Joell, Le'Trisha Dillander (Danny), and Danita Gary.; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Revs. Larry Hudson and Taylor Latham. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Tiffany Lewis for the care and assistance she provided during the final months of the life of their loved one. Her kindness has meant the world to all of them.
