Billy Spruill

   William Edward "Billy" Spruill, Jr., 72, of Winfall Blvd., Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Spruill was born in Chowan County on January 18, 1948, and was the son of the late William Edward Spruill, Sr. and Hazel Virginia Toppin Spruill. An Army veteran and retired law enforcement officer, he was a member of Open Door Church in Edenton.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Spruill.

   Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Peggy Chappell Spruill; two daughters, Melanie Shoaff (husband, Chris) and Amy Comoroski (husband, Steve), both of Hertford; a sister, Ann Brinkley White (husband, Paul) of Sunbury; two brothers, Fred Spruill (wife, Mary) and David Spruill (wife, Debra), both of Edenton; a sister-in-law, Sandy Spruill of Sumter, SC; four grandchildren, Kayla and Caroline Shoaff, and Jacob and Grace Lynn Comoroski; 19 nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

   A private graveside memorial service for family and close friends will be held Thursday in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, and will be conducted by Pastors Stephen Mizell, Jay Rivenbark, and Chris Shoaff. Due to the restrictions and concerns associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held.
