Billy Downs

   William Talton “Billy” Downs, 61, of Pop’s Lane, Cofield, NC, died Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

   Mr. Downs was born in Hertford County on September 23, 1957, and was the son of the late Linwood Talmadge “Pop” Downs, Sr. and Geraldine Brown Downs Ryder. Employed as a diesel mechanic, he was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 18 years, Norma Stafford Downs; two sisters, Linda Mizelle and husband, Randy, and Tammy White and husband, Bill; two brothers, L.T. Downs, Jr. and James Downs and wife, Dottie; three step-daughters, Robin Montello and husband, Joe, Teresa Rickles, and Denise Parker and husband, Kerry; a step-son, Wesley Taylor; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Holly Springs Baptist Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. Paul Ange. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Thursday.
