Bill Ames

   Martin William "Bill" Ames, 78, of Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Ames was born in Washington, D.C. on December 23, 1944, and was the son of the late Martin M. and Agnes McGraime Ames. A professional firefighter, he retired following a total of 29 years of service. Upon his move to Albemarle Plantation in Hertford he was an avid golfer, was a member of the Sound Golf Links, and had served as president of the Men's Golf League. Other enjoyments included his love of traveling and seeing the world. Over the years he and his wife enjoyed visiting many areas and cultures in both the United States and abroad.

   Surviving is his wife, Janice Deichert Ames; and other extended family members and friends.

   Per his request, no services will be held at this time.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Heart Association.
